Royal Navy Rugby Union
The Royal Navy Rugby Union is a charity committed to promoting participation and enjoyment of rugby at all levels within the Naval Service. The RNRU’s calendar is full throughout the year with rugby and associated events. The annual Army v Navy Match at Twickenham is their biggest event of the season, a match that now attracts a crowd of 82,000.
The Royal Navy Rugby Union is Sapphire Seven’s longest standing client. Company directors Jo and Toni hold a long established working relationship with the RNRU which began long before Sapphire Seven was launched. The work we undertake has grown year on year and we are now involved in the majority of the day-to-day running of the business, leaving the Charity free to focus on their core objectives, and what is at the heart of it all - rugby.
Below is an overview of just some of the activities we are involved in.
Sapphire Seven develop a marketing strategy and produce a marketing plan for each season encompassing both Navy Rugby merchandise and ticket sales, which is in line with the Union’s objectives and their core values. Since Sapphire Seven took over the marketing for the Union in 2013, they have seen significant increases in both merchandise sales and Army v Navy ticket sales which have surpassed all expectations.
Sapphire Seven are also appointed Brand Managers for the Royal Navy Rugby Union responsible for managing the brand as a whole. Since appointing us as brand managers, the RNRU has benefited from a more cohesive and consistent approach. The more professionally formed RNRU brand has encouraged additional sponsor involvement.
Website & Webshop Management
Sapphire Seven worked with the Royal Navy Rugby Union’s chosen web services supplier to spec out a website that covers everything from advertising their up coming fixtures, publishing match reports, providing information about the Union and its activities, to selling RNRU merchandise, and the sale of Army v Navy tickets.
We undertake the day-to-day running of the website, updating information and imagery on the site. We also fully manage the webshop and ticket sales site undertaking order processing, payment processing, dispatch of orders, stock control and financial reconciliation.
Alongside the website services, Sapphire Seven provide customer services via both email and telephone, answering general enquiries and taking orders for both merchandise and tickets over the phone, along with a full after sales service.

Army v Navy Tickets
Sapphire Seven fully manage the whole of the Army v Navy ticket sales process, from liaising with the RFU and Army Navy Match Committee regarding the allocation of tickets within the stadium, through to managing team & VIP tickets, and direct customer sales.
We liaise with both internal and external customers about their ticket requirements, take orders, process payments, allocate the stadium tickets, dispatch ticket orders and provide a full after sales service.
The 2017 Army Navy tickets sold out in just 4 days, we processed sales of over 34,000 tickets and dispatched over 3,600 individual orders.
Sapphire Seven manage a number of events on behalf of the Royal Navy Rugby Union including the hospitality at Twickenham Stadium for the Army v Navy match, and the Union's Annual Dinner and Ball.
Dependant on the event, we manage everything from sourcing branded gifts for attendees & dressing the venue, through to fully managing the event as a whole agreeing a guest list, sending invites, managing RSVP’s, creating the table plan, sourcing a marquee, DJ, photographer etc.
From small one-off events, to their large annual dinner for over 200 guests, Sapphire Seven manage these on behalf of the Royal Navy Rugby Union throughout the year.
Working along side the Royal Navy Rugby Union’s Director of Marketing, Sapphire Seven manage a large number of the Union’s supplier contracts. Sapphire Seven also manage the day to day supplier relationships and ordering processes.
We work with various suppliers to provide everything from kit & formal wear to branded chocolates and everything in between. As brand managers for the RNRU, Sapphire Seven can ensure that all items sourced fit within the RNRU branding, and also comply with their sponsors' requirements.
Sapphire Seven manage the supply chain fully, from initial design of an item, be that kit, merchandise or gifts, through to placing the order, receipt of delivery, quality checking and reconciliation of invoicing.
Whether it is a single item for a VIP or special occasion, or quantities in the hundreds, Sapphire Seven manage the order process from beginning to end.
